Dental Practice Management: Marketing or Organization One misconception with many small business’ and definitely with my dental clients when it comes to dental practice management is to know what comes first, organizing or marketing. Most people think that organization should come first. They feel that they need to have everything in place and ready to go before they start marketing. This strategy is a death sentence!Even the best marketing in the world takes time to have any effect.Of course, you need to be able to function on a basic level but it is important to get the ball rolling on your marketing strategy as soon as possible.
Getting people into your business is like putting the turkey in the oven for Thanksgiving. The turkey needs to go in the oven early so that it will be ready for your guests by the time they arrive.Only when its in can you work on preparing the side dishes and getting the house ready for your guests.
You need to get your dental marketing going and then use the time before it begins to work to get organized. This means that you will most likely be a little disorganized in the beginning. The priority is: Start to market so you could get people in later!
Another problem that comes from people trying to get their business organized is that they organize every aspect and detail of everything.    Organizing just for the sake of organizing is not necessary and causes a lot of unneeded stress. You will do better by getting many people in and growing, taking care of the organization as it needs to be done. Also, if you are growing, staying completely organized is impossible! The payoff of getting the ball rolling on your marketing starts slow but will give you the time to organize your business so that you are ready to take on more people once they start coming in.
Remember, good sound business or dental practice management includes getting your marketing going as the very first important step.Only then should you start organizing and handling new patients as they start coming in.
