Cover Letter Doe’s and Don’t
Cover letter Resume writing is important as it accompanies and introduces your resume. After a perfect resume, a cover letter is the next, most important tool in your job search kit. A persuasive, well-written cover letter can make all the difference in catching a potential employer’s attention and landing an interview. Here are some basic tips of what to include or not in cover letter
Start with your address, date, employer’s address, and a greeting. Treat the opening paragraph like your introduction to the employer and include who you are, how you learned about the opportunity and how you can be the best candidate?
Introduce yourself with all qualification and skills. And then ties your entire cover letter together, reiterating your interest and specifying what you will do to follow up about the position. Then refer the reader to your enclosed resume and any other enclosed documents. Make sure that your strong interest in the position is evident.
..
Avoid the lengthy discussions and life stories for the interviewing process or for when you’re seated at your new desk. Try to limit on one page. Do check names and address of you and the persons whom you are sending to. Spell out the words or better yet, don’t use the latest jargon at all or shorten words to fit the page.Make the linkages between the job and your skills for the employer. Don’t assume they’ll do it on their own, but make it obvious to the reader that your skills meet the job responsibilities.
Tell them what makes you unique. Set yourself unique by your abilities. Avoid “To Whom It May Concern:” or “Dear Sir or Madam:” at all costs. Do search for the person or authority you are applying to and address your cover letter to the specific person.
Don’t use the same letter to apply for different posts. Search for the company and the post and better prepare your cover letter according to the post you are applying for. Let them know you are interested in the company and better prepared than others.
The HR managers don’t have much time to go in detail make it brief but detailed and don’t make the reader search for it. Include your past success according to the post you are applying for. For example if you are applying for administrative post, include your past administration experience. Just keep in mind that a cover letter is a piece of formal business correspondence, and Resume should be treated accordingly.
